How the L10 Bearing Life Calculator Works
The L10 bearing life is the number of hours (or revolutions) that 90% of a group of identical bearings will reach or exceed under the same operating conditions. It's calculated using the ISO 281 standard: L10 = (C/P)^p × 10⁶ / (60 × n), where C is the dynamic load rating, P is the equivalent dynamic load, p is the life exponent (3 for ball, 10/3 for roller), and n is the speed in RPM.
The equivalent dynamic load P combines radial and axial loads using bearing-specific factors: P = X·Fr + Y·Fa. The X and Y factors depend on the bearing type, contact angle, and the ratio of axial to radial load (Fa/Fr).
Our calculator also provides static safety factors (S₀ = C₀/P₀), speed utilization checks, temperature considerations, and ISO 286 fit recommendations for shaft and housing tolerances.
